Wordless Wednesday

Just got a text from T asking

"Did I cost anything at the sperm bank?"

I really want to know how that came up at school. . . .

    1. T was talking to a friend and they were talking about insulting someone you are in a fight with. One of the insults they came up with was "You were a mistake". T's friend said to T, "Well, that wouldn't work on you because you are the epitome of a planned pregnancy." They both thought about that and then his friend said, "Did you cost anything at the sperm bank?" They discussed that for a minute and then T texted me to ask. He's going back tomorrow to tell his friend how much.

  2. Too much! Although I'm sure you got a chuckle out of the questoin. It's amazing what kids have to talk about these days.

  3. I read this on Wednesday and I'm still laughing about it. You know what my favorite part of this is, though? How matter-of-fact his friends are about it. It is awesome beyond words.

    1. I volunteered at his school from the time he was in kindergarten until last year (I do a presentation on Lakota daily life to the third graders) so the kids all know me. Plus, he has now had three years of fairly open and honest communication about sex and reproduction through the school. Plus, T knows anything he asks me (regardless of where we are) I will answer honestly and completely within my knowledge base (which embarrassed him to no end the day he asked about gender non-conforming/transgender issues in Target). So, part of it is the way in which we have approached the issue, part of it is the fact that he and his friends have known about J and I since kindergarten, and part of it is his access to actual facts and information.

It still makes me laugh, though. It's like we called the sperm bank and ordered a T, to go.
