It was the canter that allowed him to throw me in June and I still feel incredibly out of riding shape due to my eighteen year layoff. I know that when I ask him for the canter, I immediately tense up, which makes riding so much harder. Tonight I felt much more comfortable, when we were moving at the canter, which I hope means I am working on correcting the issue mentally. (I set it in my conscious mind before falling asleep and work on it in my subconscious during the night. I do math the same way.) It also think it is helping that he is getting stronger and his canter is much more comfortable for both of us. (I didn't realize that part of the issue was his cross-canter - which is extremely difficult to ride with any grace.)

My goal for the Horse Soccer is to develop a rapport deep enough that he will be able to play as an active partner, where he is making as many of the decisions as I do. I think that will be the most fun for both of us.Crickethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00834640625999522559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7657955103086716631.post-47042084355936150242012-11-11T22:25:07.191-07:002012-11-11T22:25:07.191-07:00One thing you might want to try to get more feelin...One thing you might want to try to get more feeling at the canter is this exercise. Knot the reins on his neck so he has the choice of direction--you chose the speed, and press your hands on his withers or the pommel of your saddle (this helps rock your weight slightly forward) and then just go with him just trying to feel how he's moving and which direction he will go by the way his back is moving. The other value of this exercise is getting him to think a little more about where he is in the space and be a little more collected and ready to turn.Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12509363746521791357noreply@blogger.com
